A friend of mine recently published her first novel!
I was thrilled when I found out- and triple thrilled and excited after I read it because it is so damn funny! I will be writing a review of it soon and providing a link to the publisher so you can order your own copy.
Her name is Collette Yvonne, and her novel is called "The Queen of Cups".
I met Collette when I was about 14 or 15 years old. I had my own babysitting business and I worked for a wonderful group of families.
There were the tai-chi trio of Collette, Linda and Cathy.
When I went to babysit at any of the tai-chi ladies homes I felt like my future was full of possibilities; and my opinions and perspectives were valued. They treated me like an adult- their equal. They talked to me about Shakespeare and Atwood. I loved it.
I would browse their bookshelves and read and write on late nights after the children were sleeping.
They were so calm and peaceful and intellectual.
Good people.
Collette is such an easy going, down to earth woman. I called her last weekend after I had stayed up all night reading her book, and I felt as though time had not changed anything between us- even though it has been almost seven years since I have seen her.
She is enthusiastic and her enthusiasm and passion for writing and storytelling ignited my own passions again.
It's awesome to know such a truly confident woman.
